Competition Rules
DIGITAL/PROJECTED IMAGES
Projected Images are digital images prepared according to the following instructions.
Images are to be the maximum size that will fit within the space of 1920 pixels wide by 1080 pixels high and no larger than 2MB
· a square image would be exactly 1080 x 1080.
· a panorama would be 1920 wide.
· a deep landscape-oriented image would be 1080 high but could be shorter than 1920 wide.
This will ensure your image fills the screen in its longest dimension and that it will be correctly sized should it be selected for the SAPF Annual competition.
· Maximum File size is 2MB
· Colour space for images to be: sRGB
· File format to be: jpg
· Images must be submitted in the correct orientation for screening.
Avoid using a similar image twice in a competition. It is better to have totally different images as similar images will be compared against each other in quite a different way than two very different images by the judge. Below is what happens in SAPF competitions:
Same/Substantially Similar Images are excluded from the competition.
Similar are images those with similar composition, similar lighting and angles e.g. images taken at the same photographic session with only minor differences.
Each entrant’s images should be unique and diverse.
So what do you do with these images when they are clearly the best in the world? Stick them on your wall, in competitions outside TTGPC, join 6 other photography clubs... or just enjoy them!
NATURE
In NATURE based competitions you are allowed to edit your images, but only to the point where it does not significantly change how you viewed the original scene. You can do the following:
Lens profile adjustments
White balance adjustments
Remove dust spots
Change exposure/shadows/highlights/whites and blacks
Vibrance/Saturation adjustments
Contrast/Clarity adjustments
Noise reduction/Sharpening adjustments
Cropping
But remember these changes must still reflect the original scene.
Cloning is OUT.

PRINTS
PRINTS COMPETITION
Size: Generally, most prints are around 8x10 inches, or a little larger BUT no larger than A3. It’s a bit about common sense. Nothing huge and nothing too small that members down the back can’t see a thing.
Matts: A cardboard matt may be put around the print, but is quite optional and will not make any difference to your score.
If you enter the SAPF Annual matts are required, but not for TTGPC.
Prints may be printed at home, or commercially printed from Big W/Harvey Norman type shops through to Pro Labs.
It does not matter if prints are obtained digitally, or with film, or worked on in an editing application. However, ALL parts of any image MUST have been be taken by the author of that image: ie. you cannot paste in that magnificent sky you found on the internet. The same applies to digital images.
Write the title and your name on the back of your image being very careful not to press hard so it goes through the print. Plus, be aware if you are using a sticker, that some stickers "pull" causing buckling on the front of the image.
All images MUST have a title. "Untitled," is not considered to be a title. Why? Simply because it makes the life of the Competition Secretary easier!
Mark "TOP" or draw an arrow on the back of all images as sometimes it is difficult for the person placing the print for judging to determine the "right" way up. Obviously some images won't need this as it will be more than obvious, BUT an image of a flower for example, may have more than one possibility.
It might help for later in the year (ie End of year comp), to add the name of the section and the date... "Wind through the leaves" Set Subject "Leaves" August 2038"
